Wisconsin DNR introduces new state parks app

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources introduced a new mobile app July 30 dedicated to state parks, forests and trails.

The app is the second the department has produced; the first, released last November, provides information on fishing, hunting and wildlife in the state.

The new app allows users to search for Wisconsin state parks and forests by name, activity, region or simply find one closest to them. Handy GPS-enabled maps provide a look at properties around the state and activities at each of those properties.

A major plus: Trail maps can be downloaded for offline use, which may come in handy as cell service can be limited in the areas the app highlights.

While some may venture into nature to get away from technology, it's hard to ignore the benefits of the new app, even if you just use it to find a new place to explore.

The app is available for Apple and Android devices. Search "Wisconsin Pocket Ranger" in the Apple store or Google Play.
